I had/have a WD TV as my main media player prior to this, worked well, just slow as hell and no current apps in my version. Not sure what you mean by remote controlling apps issue. Apart from that, I have not used it for games, that is what my PS4 is for. I have played Tales of Borderlands for about a min & I streamed Tomb Raider from my Mac also for about a min, just to test. I have had once soon after it was released.
